What Happened #Patriot

Back in January, the United States fiscal cliff  as reflected on Wikipedia, reports: "In the United States, the fiscal cliff was a simultaneous increase in tax rates and decrease of government spending through sequestration that would have occurred January 2013"

Fast forward to the current slippery slope:

"Congress averted that self-built precipice late Tuesday when the House voted to stave off widespread tax increases and deep spending cuts by accepting a brokered Senate compromise. 

It makes permanent the Bush administration's tax cuts for individuals earning less than $400,000 per year and couples earning less than $450,000.It raises rates on those who make more than that from 35% to 39.6%, bringing back a top tax bracket from the Clinton administration, and will raise roughly $600 billion in new revenues over 10 years, according to various estimates.

The bill also extends unemployment insurance and delays for two months the threat of sequestration -- a series of automatic, across-the-board cuts in federal spending." 

Yes, it did that and had additional spending placed into it.  According to the Heritage Foundation, the Fiscal Cliff Deal Added $47 Billion in Spending.  

Now the question is, for the Republicrats with the POTUS included, where's the leadership?

If this was YOUR house, you would cut off the cable TeeVee, you would not eat out as much, you would be kind to your neighbor, but since this is Congress, we see two instances where result in a 19.63% increase in revenue and 0.25% reduction in spending in January and now we have "-280B in revenues and +50B in spending".

In other words, we taxed and reduced on one side while reducing income and increasing spending on the other.  Please see the article about the "Surrender Caucus".

While no one decreases their personal income willingly without decreasing their personal spending, it appears Congress got close to that goal once but not this time.

With Mr. Obama, I can agree that that Congress should "focus on what the majority of Americans sent us here to do" and he should include himself in that quote. 

As I mentioned on Facebook, Sadly, come Christmas, unless Congress develops some guts or some other miracle, we will be exactly where we were 30 days ago.

Articles like this show the world how callous and uncivilized civilized people have become.  In a generation that admonishes Christians for being narrow-minded, there is a particular outcry against people who don't think like we do.

We are supposed to be universally accepting.  Christians are becoming universally unaccepted.

We are supposed to be intelligent.  Christians are described by the radical atheists as stupid.

I supposed one could expect warm fuzzies from their detractors.  Jesus said it would not happen.

An atheist was walking through the woods.

'What majestic trees!'  'What powerful rivers!'  'What beautiful animals!'
He said to himself.

As he was walking alongside the river, he heard a rustling in the bushes behind him.

He turned to look. He saw a 7-foot grizzly bear charge towards him.

He ran as fast as he could up the path. He looked over his shoulder & saw that the bear was closing in on him.

He looked over his shoulder again, & the bear was even closer.

He tripped & fell on the ground.

He rolled over to pick himself up but saw that the bear was right on top of him, reaching for him with his left paw & raising his right paw to strike him.

At that instant moment, the Atheist cried out: 'Oh my God!'
Time stopped.
The bear froze.
The forest was silent.

As a bright light shone upon the man, a voice came out of the sky.

'You deny my existence for all these years, teach others I don't exist and even credit creation to cosmic accident.'

'Do you expect me to help you out of this predicament?'

'Am I to count you as a believer?'

The atheist looked directly into the light, and said: 'It would be hypocritical of me to suddenly ask you to treat me as a Christian now, but perhaps you could make the BEAR a Christian?'

'Very well', said the voice.

The light went out.

The sounds of the forest resumed.

And the bear dropped his right paw, brought both paws together, bowed his head & spoke:

'Lord bless this food, which I am about to receive from Thy bounty through Christ our Lord, Amen.'

Denominations

My church is part of the Body!  NO!  My church is!  WHAT?  Don't you know that MY church is the ONLY true church?

1 Corinthians 12:25 so that there should be no division in the body, but that its parts should have equal concern for each other.

In the mean time, folks are going to Hell because the Body is not ONE.

A call to prayer

What surprises await you? What will tomorrow bring? Was it something
you were expecting?

So many years ago, I had the privilege and pleasure of traveling to
Scandinavia. It was a nice trip. It was a trip I want to do again.

During that experience, I was giving a presentation to an English
class in Sweden.

There, the habit was to lock the door after the class started. Soon
after I had started the presentation, there was a knock at the door.

Not knowing what to do, I looked at the teacher who indicated I should
do what I thought was right.

Someone's in for a surprise ... was it going to be me?

As I opened the door, there was a Swedish teenage young lady.

In my Oklahoma accent in Swedish, I asked her to come in. She did.

Again, in Swedish, what's your name? She told me.

How are you today? ... still in Swedish ... she said she was fine.

OH, I just remembered, so, in Swedish, I asked her if she spoke English. Yes
Good ... then since this is English class, we will use that language.
"Please put your books down and help me."

The teacher, at the end of class, said she bets that student would
NEVER be late for class.

The TEACHER says: "Behold, I stand at the door and knock."

Will you be surprised or will He?

How can the Church be one if there are so many autonomous branches?   


What shall we do?  If we are part of the Body of Christ as the various denominations claim to be, what shall we say about cooperation, unity, corporate worship, and the like?

Yet another Angry Atheist encounter

My friend, +Jason Horton, please know, like you, I am tolerant of other beliefs and non-beliefs. I have not degraded our conversation to name-calling, however.

I'm neither trying to convince you that you are right or wrong. I am discussing another issue, a way of seeing things, that it appears you have selected to omit.

Clearly, in the recent time, it would appear that Muslim suicide bombers have the majority. As for Christian suicide bombers, I don't have any in my circle of friends and neither do I keep bomb making material around my place.

While Wikipedia is not a scholarly source,http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christian_terrorism will help you with your war against Christianity. While I don't see a large quantity of suicide bombers listed there, I see disturbing reports of people behaving very un-Christlike.

You have all the more reason to bring legal action, if any of those events occurred in your life. Fortunately, I think you were not as aggrieved as you would lead readers to believe.

Since you admit that you are an atheist and I find some humor in the manner in which you chose to state the obvious, that does not absolve you from being civil. In other words, during this discourse, I have not attacked your scholarship or sincerity regarding the faith with which you hold your non-belief. This is particularly true when, as you write, "I don't know you".

Again, please accept my apologies for the offenses you have concluded I singularly have placed in your way. Clearly, the acts of which I am alleged to have committed where not what my Lord Jesus would have me to have done.

Running in the Rain

A little girl had been shopping with her Mom in Target. She must have been 6 years old, this beautiful red haired, freckle faced image of innocence.

 

It was pouring outside. The kind of rain that gushes over the top of rain gutters, so much in a hurry to hit the earth it has no time to flow down the spout. We all stood there, under the awning, just inside the door of the Target. 

We waited, some patiently, others irritated because nature messed up their hurried day.

 

I am always mesmerized by rainfall. I got lost in the sound and sight of the heavens washing away the dirt and dust of the world. Memories of running, splashing so carefree as a child came pouring in as a

welcome reprieve from the worries of my day.

Her little voice was so sweet as it broke the hypnotic trance we were all caught in, 'Mom let's run through the rain, 'she said.

'What?' Mom asked.

'Let's run through the rain!' She repeated.

'No, honey. We'll wait until it slows down a bit,' Mom replied.

This young child waited a minute and repeated: 'Mom, let's run through the rain.'

'We'll get soaked if we do,' Mom said.

'No, we won't, Mom. That's not what you said this morning,' the young girl said

as she tugged at her Mom's arm.

'This morning? When did I say we could run through the rain and not get wet?'

'Don't you remember? When you were talking to Daddy about his cancer, you said, 'If God can get us through this,

he can get us through anything!''

The entire crowd stopped dead silent. I swear you couldn't hear anything but the rain. We all stood silently. No one left. Mom paused and thought for a moment about what she would say.

 

Now some would laugh it off and scold her for being silly. Some might even ignore

what was said. But this was a moment of affirmation in a young child's life. A time when innocent trust can be nurtured

so that it will bloom into faith.

'Honey, you are absolutely right. Let's run through the rain. If GOD let's us get wet, well maybe we just need washing,' Mom said.

Then off they ran. We all stood watching, smiling and laughing as they darted past the cars and yes, through the puddles. They got soaked.

 

They were followed by a few who screamed and laughed like children all the way to their cars. And yes, I did. I ran.

I got wet. I needed washing.

Circumstances or people can take away your material possessions, they can take away your money, and they can take away your health. But no one can ever take away your precious memories...So, don't forget to make time and take the opportunities

to make memories everyday.

 

To everything there is a season and a time to every purpose under heaven. 

I HOPE YOU STILL TAKE THE TIME TO RUN THROUGH THE RAIN.

They say it takes a minute to find a special person, an hour to appreciate them, a day to love them, but then an entire life to forget them.

 

Send this to the people you'll never forget and remember to also. It's a short message to let them know that you'll never forget them.

it means you're in a hurry.

Take the time to live!!!

Another encounter with an Atheist

My thinking is not wishful. I am sure; 100% dead sure and willing to bet my soul as well as my life that there is a God, His Son is Jesus, and He provides me the assurance to trust Him completely.

I choose to believe because I have dissected the arguments on both sides of the issue. I have concluded there CAN be absolutes, ex. 2+2; water freezes AND evaporates, yet maintains its molecular properties. If there CAN be absolutes, I can absolutely know that Jesus is real and He loves you. If he loves ME, I am relatively sure He loves you too.

To that end and only to that end can I mention MY experience, as a witness to what Jesus has done in my life. I have seen similar experiences in others lives. I have witnessed disappointments in others lives to say they tried Jesus without finding something beyond wishful thinking.

Sadly, you can't disprove my experience, any more than I can attempt to disprove yours. That's why I don't like to discuss experience. I hope our discussion has, for you, been seen as respectful and I've tried to be gentle. However, the reason for quoting this verse was to mention the "give an answer" part, in Greek, is "martyr" ... a witness ... and as a witness, I am not on the witness stand to do anything more than explain my experience.

It happens every Friday evening, almost without fail, when the sun  resembles a giant orange and is starting to dip into the blue ocean.

 Old Ed comes strolling along the beach to his favorite pier. Clutched  in his bony hand is a bucket of shrimp.

 Ed walks out to the end of the pier, where it seems he almost has the  world  to himself. The glow of the sun is a golden bronze now. Everybody's  gone,  except for a few joggers on the beach. Standing out on the end of the pier, Ed is alone with his thoughts....and his bucket of shrimp.

 Before long, however, he is no longer alone. Up in the sky a thousand white dots come screeching and squawking, winging their way toward that lanky frame standing there on the end of the pier. Before long, dozens of seagulls have enveloped him, their wings fluttering and flapping wildly. 

 Ed stands there tossing shrimp to the hungry birds. As he does, if you  listen  closely, you can hear him say with a smile, 'Thank you. Thank you.'

 In a few short minutes the bucket is empty. But Ed doesn't leave. He stands there lost in thought, as though transported to another time and
 place. Invariably, one of the gulls lands on his sea-bleached, weather-beaten hat - an old military hat he's been wearing for years.
 When he finally turns around and begins to walk back toward the beach, a  few of the birds hop along the pier with him until he gets to the stairs, and then they, too, fly away. And old Ed quietly makes his way down to the end of the beach and on home.

 If you were sitting there on the pier with your fishing line in the water, Ed might seem like 'a funny old duck,' as my dad used to say. Or, 'a guy
 that's a sandwich shy of a picnic,' as my kids might say. To onlookers, he's just another old codger, lost in his own weird world, feeding the
 seagulls with a bucket full of shrimp.

 To the onlooker, rituals can look either very strange or very empty. They can seem altogether unimportant....maybe even a lot of nonsense. Old folks often do strange things, at least in the eyes of Boomers and Busters.  Most of them would probably write Old Ed off, down there in Florida.

 That's too bad. They'd do well to know him better. His full name: Eddie Rickenbacker. He was a famous hero back in World War II. On one of his flying missions across the Pacific, he and  his seven-member crew went down. Miraculously, all of the men survived,  crawled out of their plane, and climbed into a life raft. Captain Rickenbacker  and his crew floated for days on the rough waters of the Pacific. They fought the sun. They fought sharks. Most of all, they fought hunger. By the eighth day their rations ran out. No food. No water. They were hundreds of miles from land and no one knew where they were. They needed a  miracle.

That afternoon they had a simple devotional service and prayed for a miracle. They tried to nap. Eddie leaned back and pulled his military  cap over his nose. Time dragged. All he could hear was the slap of the waves against the raft.

 Suddenly, Eddie felt something land on the top of his cap. It was a seagull! Old Ed would later describe how he sat perfectly still, planning  his next move. With a flash of his hand and a squawk from the gull, he managed to grab it and wring its neck. He tore the feathers off, and he  and his starving crew made a meal - a very slight meal for eight men - of it. Then they used the intestines for bait. With it, they  caught  fish, which gave them food and more bait......and the cycle continued.

 With that simple survival technique, they were able to endure the rigors of the sea until they were found and rescued. (after
 24 days at sea...)

 Eddie Rickenbacker lived many years beyond that ordeal, but he never forgot the sacrifice of that first lifesaving seagull. And he never stopped
 saying, 'Thank you.' That's why almost every Friday night he would walk  to the end of the pier with a bucket full of shrimp and a heart full of
 gratitude.

 PS: Eddie was also an Ace in WW I and started Eastern Airlines.

The Black Robe Regiment arose from the pulpits across the colonies during the Revolutionary War. The movement had its beginnings with Reverend Peter Muhlenberg in 1776 concluding his Sunday sermon declairing "In the language of the holy writ, there was a time for all things, a time to preach and a time to pray, but those times have passed away. There is a time to fight, and that time is now coming!" Muhlenberg then removed his black robe reveling a full military uniform. Marching to the rear of his church he declared "Who among you is with me? On that day 300 men from his congregation stood up and joined Muhlenberg in the fight for liberty. It is in that spirit that we have created this site. The time has come again that our church leaders must stand up and defend the values, freedoms, and liberties that our founding fathers fought and died for. This forum, and our associated website resource at http://www.blackrobereg.org, is a place where concerned Christians can network and discuss strategies for engaging the Body of Christ to take action. Our silence over the past decades has equaled consent. We must now stand up and come together and take action.
